MARY MAY NWCT Volunteer Producer ON "THE HOUSE UNITED" Volunteer Mary May produces the show "The House United" along with her husband Rick. They used to edit the program together, but quickly realized it was more harmonious for their marriage if Mary edited and Rick carried the heavy equipment. THE SHOW "The House United" is a variety show that features composers, music, interviews, book reviews, and many different things having to do with Christianity. She has interviewed Pastor Roland Wells who has a school of Urban Ministry about immigration in our society; another interview she did was with Stephen Weah who was a political refugee from Liberia. Most of the guests on the show are someone Mary knows of or has known for a long time. THE IDEA The idea came to Mary and Rick one day while reading the Bible; they came across the verse in the Gospel of Mark Chapter 3 about the house divided. It states, "If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand." Mary believes Christians are divided, and because of that, cause themselves a lot of problems. That is why the show is called "The House United." It presents parts of Christian denominations and how they should come together in unity in what to agree on. OTHER HOBBIES When Mary is not working on her television show, she has a few hobbies that keep her busy. Mary loves to read. She loves reading about history, the Christian faith and about real people who have lived real lives so you won't catch her reading The Enquirer. Mary sews cross stitch and has won awards for her counted cross stitch in Ukrainian patterns. Mary also does quilting but does not knit because she ends up with something twice as wide as when she started! MARY'S "HELPERS" If Mary is not producing a television show or doing one of her hobbies you might see her chasing after two little puppies. Mary decided last fall that she would like a pair of dachshunds. Tina (NWCT studio manager) mentioned that her friend was going to be breeding miniature dachshunds, and Mary said she would be interested. Recently two little girl puppies were born—one was named "Tina" and the other "Nikki" after Tina and Nikki at the studio. Once in a while, Mary brings them into the station to say hello to their namesakes. You can catch Mary and Rick's show, "The House United," on Channel 19, Saturdays at 4pm, and Sundays at 12am and 8am. There's a new half hour show each week. |
